A new global IDC study that surveyed 2,400 men and women of various age groups in North America, Europe, the Middle East, Asia-Pacific, and Latin America found that 16% of the global workforce is hyperconnected today and will likely rise to 40% in five years. The largest percentage of hyperconnected is in the Asia-Pacific, said the Nortel-supported survey.The Hyperconnected worker:
uses a minimum of seven devices for work and personal access and at least nine applications like instant messaging (IM), text messaging, web conferencing, and social networks.- 47% said a network outage at work would have an extreme impact on them.
- Two-thirds use text or instant messaging for both work and
personal use. More than a third use social networking for both. - is found in all countries, although higher than average in the US and China.
- is found in all industries, but are above the average in banking and high-tech industries.
- is in all levels of the corporate ladder, but are above average in management positions.
- has wired homes - 63% have home WIFI versus the average of 40%
- takes his laptop out before his wallet or even mobile phone if he has to leave his house for 24 hours
Sixty percent of these people are under 35 and male.
